What is STEM / STEAM / STEAME?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. However, it really is more than that… It means educating students in a unique kind of way. It centres around a large group of subjects and not traditional education that focuses on them as separate entities.
STEM has something for everyone:
- It shows how technology and maths connect with many of the science disciplines. There is much overlap between the various subjects.
- It connects the real world with classroom teaching.
- It focuses more on key skills that students will need for future success, such as: communication, problem solving, research, innovation, creativity, collaboration, design thinking and critical thinking.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. It really is all encompassing… It means all students can contribute and bring fresh ideas, invention and innovation. Students can come from an arts point of view and contribute, it’s not all (or just) about science and technology!
STEAME stands for Science, Technology, Engineering Arts, Maths and Entrepreneurship (Enterprise). It is the latest iteration and focuses on developing an entrepreneurial mindset and an understanding of how STEM skills translate into society.
